Information affecting dog owners Control
The Ohio Revised Code Section 955.22 specifies all dogs be confined to your property or under reasonable control at all times. Although letting your dog out the door is not normally considered reasonable control, walking outside with your dog is. Be sure to leash your dog. Insure the safety of delivery and service people. You can be held responsible for damages which your dog causes to a person or property. And a dog running loose is not only a danger to others, but is in danger himself.
Avoiding Bites
FREEZE. Do not run away unless you are positive you can reach a safe place.
AVOID STARING. Avoid looking at the dog if your stare makes it come at you, back away slowly and if it does grab for you shove something in its mouth--purse, stick, gloves, anything but you.Immunizations
You should have your dog vaccinated for rabies at 4-6 months, or according to your veterinarian's recommendations. Repeat shots are needed every 1-3 years.
DHLP--Distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, and parvo virus vaccinations should also be given.Spay/Neuter
Common sense dictates that your dog should be spayed or neutered to prevent unwanted offspring, and to eliminate the desire to fight as well as other problems.Lost Dog?
Unlicensed dogs brought to the Animal Shelter are held for 3 days. Dogs wearing a current license are held for a minimum of 14 days. Search for your dog immediately, and call or come to the Animal Shelter as soon as possible. Check with local police, the Sheriff's department, Humane Society, and veterinarians' offices. Place a lost dog ad in your local newspaper, often these ads are free. Be sure to let those agencies you have called know if your dog is recovered.Licensing
The Ohio Revised Code Section 955.01 states that dogs over 3 months of age must be licensed yearly. The fee is $8.75 if paid between December 1 through January 20. After January 20, an $8.00 penalty is added..
