Gallery exhibit to run Jan. 15 - Feb. 26The Fairmount Fine Arts Center will present "Portraits," an exhibit of art by Stanka Kordic, from Jan. 15 to Feb. 26, 1999. "Portraits" will display oil and pastel paintings. Ms. Kordic is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art and has widely exhibited in the Cleveland area. Her work is represented in many corporate and private collections.
The artist says "Painting a portrait requires more than the technical skill necessary to capture an accurate likeness. For me, it is important to meet the subject, to observe their subtleties of manner, and to catch a glimpse of their personality. These observations become a part of my subconscious as I complete the portrait. They are valuable tools I use to make a richer, more spirited likeness. All of these positive interpretations contribute to the end result: a unique work of art, not just a nice picture of someone. A painting completed not by formula, but by an honest response to the person before me."
The public is invited to meet the artist during the Opening Reception on Saturday, Jan. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Fine Arts Center. Admission is free.
