Motion by Patrick Cavanagh, seconded by Eugene McCune, Jr. to adjourn the September 6, 2005, meeting.  VOTE:  McCune, yes; Cavanagh, yes. The motion passed.

Mr. Cavanagh explained that the trustees recessed the September 6, 2005, meeting because they were going to meet with Gordon Petersen of Petersen Construction at Adam Hall on Wednesday night for a critical walk through.  It was noted that Mr. Petersen has been very helpful from start to finish.

PUBLIC COMMENT:

Mr. Jack Trethewey indicated that someone is dumping landfill on the west side of the newly repaved section of Quinn Road. The loads of dirt are on the edge of the ditch.  He also indicated that a culvert on Bartholomew was either washed out or torn out.

Craig Sirna asked about the status of the cable television for the area.  Mr. Sirna indicated that he spoke with Cebridge and they don’t want to run any new lines in the area.  Mr. Sirna stated that there is a DSL line that stops on Crackle Road.  It will cost $2,500, which he is willing to pay, for Adelphia to run the line to his home.  He has 14 signatures in support of this, but they would need an updated contract with the Township before they would do the work.  Mr. Sirna will handle the follow-up with Lisa Michaels and get back to the Trustees.

Mr. McCune gave a brief history of cable in the township and related that the only cable company willing to come into a rural area like Auburn was Star Cable, which became Classic Cable and eventually Cebridge Communications.  Mr. McCune also indicated that Adelphia will not expand in Auburn and only services a very limited area on the outskirts.

Tina Boyd commented that she is working on an artist’s fund raiser to help an Auburn resident, Sandy Spisak Bremenour, who has stage three cancer.  She is working with the Geauga Council for Arts to hold a benefit on December 2-4, 2005.  She would like to use Adam Hall for the formal gallery show.   She explained that this event has the potential to make about $8,000.  Mrs. Boyd explained how the event would work and feels it would be good exposure for Adam Hall and the community.  Ed Zmarsley was also present and explained his role in the event.

Mr. McCune explained that the Board is currently formulating how they are going to rent this building and that the hall has to pay for itself.  The Board of Trustees is hosting an Open House for Adam Hall on October 9th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for all residents to get a first look at the new community center.

Mrs. Boyd offered her services to help with the grand opening and offered to bake or do whatever was needed.  She also explained that they have a policeman arranged for their event because they would like to serve wine at the preview showing on Friday night.

Mr. Cavanagh indicated that he felt the event would fit well in the community but the Board could not commit to anything this evening.

REPORTS:

Jeff Renner, President Auburn Volunteer Fire Department, was present.  Mr. Cavanagh explained that Mr. Renner would be giving his scheduled monthly report on the 3rd Monday of the month beginning at tonight’s meeting.  Mr. Renner presented his report to the trustees noting there were 30 calls for the month of August, 2005. There were 19 residential runs. 26% of the calls were covered by station daytime staffing.

Mr. Renner commented that resident Barb Timmons is in good spirits following her accident.  She has some numbness but no paralysis and will be having surgery on her eye socket.

Mr. Renner also reported that this year’s clam bake was a wonderful success.  Attendance was 250 people, the food was good and clean up ended by 11:00 PM.  They made a $500 profit and they plan to host the event again next year.  The department had a lot of help with the bake.

In addition, Mr. Renner reported that the department purchased a hose washer for $11,000.  The unit is being set up now.  They also purchased a brush slide in unit for $12,000.  The Department had a $4,000 grant to help cover this expense.  AVFD also purchased a ¾ ton single wheel extended cab short bed truck, diesel engine for $29,800 with a list price of $40,000.  They purchased it from a salesman who lives in Auburn Township.  They are also updating prices on a Zoomero boat (like a zodiac).  The dive team will be able to use it also.  The uniqueness of this unit is that the rescue victim can come up through the floor.

Gene McCune reported that some initial landscaping for Adam Hall will be done by the Road Department.  He has discussed the parking lot and building drainage with the Road Superintendent. Dave will install railroad ties and plant grass around the front and side of the building.

Patrick J. Cavanagh commented that both quotes received to put in grass seed for Adam Hall were very expensive.  Mr. Cavanagh reported that Adam Hall has passed the well water tests. The Health Department was here today to check the water from the inside of the building.

Mr. McCune will call Don Simpson of Auburn Fence to repair the fence in front of Adam Hall.  He again announced that the grand opening Open House for Adam Hall will be October 9th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Mr. Cavanagh reported that there were several problems around the new subdivision construction site of Moreland Phase II with a wash out showing up in ponds on Messenger Road.  Geauga Soil and Water checked it out and the retention ponds were redone.  Mr. Cavanagh commented that this is an example of how erosion control in our zoning resolution has a positive effect.  It was also reported that there will be a walk through for Moreland Phase I on Thursday.

Susan Plavcan, Clerk, is on vacation this week and so was not present.

The Lindsay Lane culvert issue which is on the agenda has been resolved. There was no discussion.

Mr. McCune commented on the rental prices for Adam Hall.  He indicated that Adam Hall will pay for itself, there will be no cooking in the hall, there will be an approved list of caterers, and only certified bartenders can be used.

Motion by Patrick J. Cavanagh to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Eugene McCune.  VOTE:  McCune, yes; Cavanagh, yes. The motion passed. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m.
