Demographics and History

   Chester Township's population was 11,049 with a total of 3,736 households according to a 1990 census report. Their median household income in 1989 was $48,026. The township, which was originally called Wooster, is 23.6 square miles in size.

   The first log cabin was built in May of 1801 by Esquire Milner, Philo Milner, and H. Sheffield. The first post office was built at Chester Cross Roads in 1827 with Dr. William N. Hudson as postmaster.

Safe Return Program
To aid residents with Alzheimer's and other related diseases, the police has instituted a program to locate and identify lost victims and return them to safety.

Residents may register for the program by contacting Chester Detective, Deborah L. Davis at 729-1234. The department is requesting a recent photograph as well as other important data.
