MAINTENANCE REPORT:

Roads:

Maintenance crews have been completing standard maintenance for this time of year.  Roads have been graded and graveled as needed; flood control has been maintained as well.  Several tons of gravel have been spread.  Mulch has been spread on all flowerbeds and work has begun in the cemetery as well as the park.  Crews have gotten a good head start on spring projects.

Estimates have been received for road repairs in the Windmill Point Subdivision.  The preliminary cost of Stillwell Road is $165,000.00 and Windmill Point Road is $190,000.00.

As crews were spreading gravel an electric line made contact with the truck at 15323 Princeton Road.  The wire went across the road from a house to a barn.  The residence belongs to Janet Haueter and a bill was received from the Haueters for $291.85 for repairs made by Merryfield Electric.  The Haueters will be notified that we are not responsible for the repairs.

Spring Cleanup Day will be May 5th starting at 7:00 am and continuing until 11:00 am or filled.

TOWN HALL:

We received a brochure from American Alert concerning alarm monitoring.  They will be asked to send a representative to a meeting.

OLD BUSINESS:

Cy Zion and Pat Jonath were present to see where the Board of Trustees stood and to seek their support in opposing the First Energy proposal of placing a 138KV Power line down state route 528.  The proposal will cut properties in half and remove homes that are in the pathway.  Trustees attended a special meeting held on March 31 at 9:00 am at the Montville Community Center.

A copy of the letter sent by Thompson Trustees to the Ohio Power Siting Board was received and reviewed.

Letters will be drafted and sent to the Ohio Power Sighting Board opposing the Clay Street and State Route 528 Routes after trustees attend more meetings to discuss alternate routes.  The following letter will be sent to First Energy.

Mr. Anthony Alexander

CEO

First Energy Corporation

76 South Main Street

Akron, Ohio 44308

Dear Mr. Alexander,

As elected township trustees of Huntsburg Township we are writing this letter to express the serious concerns and strong opposition our residents have raised over the proposed 138kV transmission line that will pass through Huntsburg Township.  The construction of this proposed transmission line raises much concern for the health, safety and welfare of our residents.  Not to mention the financial loss and displacement from their homes. We urge you to use extreme caution when you choose a corridor for this transmission line.

We feel the corridor should impact the least amount of residential property and persons.  Our residents as well as the members of this board feel there is a serious safety issue involved and this proposal sends far to much power through a residential area.

Huntsburg Township Board of Trustees will attend meetings with Thompson and Montville trustees as well as Senator Grendell, Representatives Dolan and LaTourette and hopefully a representative from First Energy to find an alternate route that will offer the least amount of impact on a residential area.

We thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.  The trustees may be reached as follows: Clark Adams (440) 635-0018, Nancy Kothera (440) 636-5498 and Peter Seliskar (440) 636-5597.

Copies to be sent to Mia Moore First Energy, Ted Krauss First Energy, Geauga County Commissioners,

Senator Grendell, Rep. Dolan, Rep. LaTourette

A Letter from Jeff & Lucile Walters referring to the power line in close proximity to Walter’s Lake was received along with emails from other family members.

NEW BUSINESS:

Trustee Adams reported on the Health District Advisory Council Meeting he attended on March 29th.   The meeting focused on the new rules and regulations for septic systems.  The approximate cost of the new systems will run homeowners $28,000.00 per unit.  Senator Grendell is trying to delay this action for 2 years.  The new rules are in effect.  A copy of the Proposed 2008 budget was received and discussed.

The friends of Auburn Career Center are seeking an endorsement for the .58 mill Bond Issue that will be on the May 8 Ballot.
