Demographics and History The township's population in 1990 came to 2,642 with a total of 683 households. The residents earned a median income in 1989 of $32,872 per household. The township is 24.1 square miles in size.
John Finley was the first known resident in 1802. He lived in a hut near what came to be called Finley's Creek.
A group of Mormons lived in the township, and, around 1836, a debate took place between the Rev. Mr. Tracey and Joe Smith that lasted for two days. They debated the question, "Are prophets needed at the present time?" Smith won the debate and converted 12 families in the process.
