JUNE 7, 2007

 

Bill Blue, chairperson, called the meeting to order.  Other members present: Joan Jemison, Edna Davis.   Others present: Chief Joe Stehlik,   Bethann Petronio, Admin. Assist. 

 

 AGENDA:   none

 

MINUTES OF MAY 3, 2007:  There were no corrections to the minutes.  Davis made a motion to approve the minutes as written.  Jemison seconded.  ROLL CALL:  All Yeas. 

 

PERSONNEL:

1.      Still looking for more part-time dispatchers and police officers.

2.      Will be hiring one part-time dispatcher this evening.

3.      Placed ads in the newspaper.

4.      Officer Brian Sara resigned as of May 31, 2007.  Needs to be accepted by Council.

5.      Nick DiVita will be re-hired as a full-time police officer.  Starting rate will be $22.50.

Officer DiVita will oversee the new canine unit.   The dog would be fully trained and in service by December 2007.

Davis made a motion to recommend the re-hiring of Nick DiVita as a full time officer at a compensation rate of $22.50.  Jemison seconded.   ROLL CALL:  All Yeas.

Davis made a motion to recommend to Council that a canine unit be established in the Village of Middlefield.  Jemison seconded.   ROLL CALL:  All Yeas.

 

EQUIPMENT:

1.      New computer aided dispatch program is still being completed.

2.      Most municipalities in the county are using this new system except for two.

 

OTHER:

1.      Still approximately 25 alarms still connected.

2.      John Burger is still ill and his wife is handling the business.

3.      Will have the alarms removed as soon as she can.

 

WRITING CLASS:

1.      Three officers are taking the class.

2.      Have had three classes and seems to be going well.

 

DISPATCH TRAINING MANUAL:

1.      Manual has been completed.

2.      Working on other issues with regards to the dispatch center. 

 

PARKING ON SIDE STREETS:

1.      Grove Street has about 2000 cars a day traveling on this street.

2.      Speed is not an issue on the street.

3.      Will continue to look at parking on streets
