The meeting was called to order with the following members present: Diana Cathan, Sue Evans, Ed Simon, Dan Weir, Administrator and Bethann Petronio, secretary.

MINUTES OF OCTOBER 17, 2005:  The minutes of October 17 were accepted as written.   

 

ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON:  Weir nominated Diana Cathan for chairperson.  Nominations were closed.  ROLL CALL:  Yeas (3), Nays (1) MOTION PASSED

 

OLD BUSINESS:

NEW BUSINESS:

POWERS AND DUTIES OF COMMISSION:  All members had read the code.  The commission is to consist of six members. Five residents of the Village and the Village Administrator as an ex-officio member.  At the present time there are only four members which does constitute a quorum but would like to have the full five resident members.  Julie Dolezal is interested in becoming a member and may know of someone else interested.  Commission is in charge of all tree planning programs.   Commission also looks at landscaping plans for new commercial and industrial sites.   Also looks at the parks around town.  Notifies Village of dead trees that need to be removed and helps with beautification projects around town.   Look at adding plantings to the new George Knox Park (frisbee golf).

 

2007 PLANT A TREE PROGRAM:  This program was not very successful last fall.  Need to advertise in more places (library, newsletter, Good News, post office).  Maybe plant street trees in the tree lawns again.  Will pick the tree species at the next meeting.  Possibly assign certain parks to members on the commission to come up with ideas for plantings and trees.

 

ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION 2008:  Need to think about the location, species and number of trees to be planted for Arbor Day.  Have more a ceremony than what has been done in the past.  Involve some of the younger kids from either the local day care centers or elementary school.  Give out saplings of trees or have a poster contest.

 

FUTURE PLANTING ACTIVITIES:  Consider planting a flower bed in Mineral Lake Park on the corner of Grove and Lake.  Look for other locations around town, possibly the library, around the lake at the park.  Evans will talk to the library staff about plantings there, Simon will look at the park areas.

 

REMOVAL OF DEAD TREES – ARBY’S:  The owner of Arby’s has been notified to remove the dead trees along the creek side of the property.   The trees will be removed.

 

SUBMITTAL OF PROGRAM PLAN BY JULY 31, 2007:  Will come up with a plan by the next meeting to submit.  This is a tentative month to month plan of what the commission is to be accomplishing within that month.

 

SCHEDULE FOR REGULAR MEETINGS:  The next meeting will be Monday, July 9^th at 5:15 p.m.  The commission will discuss further the permanent day and times of future meetings.
